01-08 Junior Worlds Attention! All weights are in kg.How to:How to:How to: This subreddit is for the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting, which tests the snatch and the clean and jerk, and related links and topics. In June I'll move back to California, and I'm wondering if any of you have had experience with Jim Schmitz and Sports Palace, or Juggernaut Training Systems Online Coaching, or both, and if you have any thoughts on which is preferable. I've seen a lot of Juggernaut's online content and podcasts, and I know they're among the best weightlifting-minds in the country, but I also think there's something to be said for in-person coaching, and Schmitz is also a prolific coach.

After I start working in November, I'd be able to see Schmitz, or any other coach, on weekends only. However, I may also have a few months prior to work starting where I could see them 4-5 times per week, if they have that kind of time). My home is roughly 30 minutes from Sports Palace and 45 minutes from Max's Gym, though I understand Max Aita splits his team between that and Juggernaut.Thoughts feelings concerns?. In person definitely should be the preference, especially if you can work directly with either of those coaches and travel. Courtney and Colin have both gotten better, but I would argue that Pomp hasn't.

He's stayed pretty stagnant, and bombed at his last national meet. Travis Cooper I would also say hasn't gotten any better either since being with Juggernaut. I would actually say he's declined since joining. Juggernaut has a strong presence and brand recognition, but branding doesn't equal quality coaching. I will give Max Aita credit for what he's done with Colin and Courtney, but I still think Juggernaut is overrated. Eh, pomp had a pretty rough year last year with injuries and while he did bomb out i think they got him for a minor pressout? It was something really small and i believe he wouldve won if the lift had counted.

While travis is a JTS athlete, he only shows up once in a while, i think he lifts mostly full time in delaware. My point bein - max doesnt see him in person as frequently as the other 3.pope has improved quite a bit since her time at JTS also - another lifter max keeps a close eye on. Jim Schmitz is a lifer. He's been lifting since (I think) the early 1960s and was the Olympic coach at least once. He and a few others (Pierce, Pendlay, Dave Spitz) are among the best coaches in the US.I would train with Jim Schmitz in a heartbeat over Max Aita.

That's not to denigrate Max Aita at all; I'm sure he's a fine coach. But seriously, go with the guy who's been doing this forever and you can visit in person. As someone who taught himself the lifts without a coach (and has shitty form as a result), there's nothing like someone with experience watching you. In the early days, the best you could get for 'self coaching' outside of books, were some grainy ass DVD's (ripped from a VHS video camera) from IronMind with Jim Schmitz showing you how to do the lifts. And they were amazing. That was the original 'remote coaching' and I bought those in like 2004. Max is awesome, he has insight that few Americans have on a coach that literally shaped how everyone trains today. But even in this scenario there are multiple reasons why I'd go with Jim.Oddly enough while I was at U25's this past weekend I was working alongside two dozen 'lifers' in the sport.

Jim's name comes up often, even in his absence, and it's always with a stellar reverence. I'm talking about coaches that literally have created multiple Olympians, referees that have worked in 6 Olympics and the 24 World Championships between them. I am a bug in this sport, I'm approaching 40, I coach a handful of people and I referee whenever possible. But this past weekend I got to stand alongside and work with people who have been lifters, coaches, and referees in this sport longer than I have been alive and Jim is one of those people.I'd go with Jim.
